The Third Circuit Criminal Court of Panama, through order number 41 of 21 October 2010, granted bail in favor of Rolando Taboada, the Assistant Director of Immigration. The court’s decision set bail at $50,000 dollars, and when paid he will have the right to freedom of movement, during the process. Taboada is being investigated for the supposed crime of human trafficking. (TVN Noticias)
Editor’s Comment: This article calls Taboada the “Assistant Director” of Immigration. However, in fact he is the former Chief of Operations and Security, and a former Commissioner in the National Police. He turned himself in back in the end of September 2010 – and he is charged with supposedly being the mastermind of a human trafficking ring. As part of this investigation other former Immigration officials are under arrest as well.
