A Panamanian delegation led by Deputy Economy Minister Frank De Lima, began negotiations in Washington of an agreement to exchange tax information with the U.S. (EU), in what would be a change in policy compared to what has been followed thus far by the government of Panama, who had opted to sign treaties to avoid double taxation. Although the details of the negotiations are currently unknown, the announcement generated a number of adverse reactions yesterday. The Bar Association of Panama said that “a change of course is contrary to good practice for negotiations between nations, and the interests of Panama.” (La Prensa)
