Via Argentina and Calle Uruguay in Panama City will be getting a face lift, in a government renewal project that will cost $30 million dollars. The project includes burying cables, extending sidewalks, the installation of new streets, and improved drainage. It also covers the construction of underground parking with capacity for 850 cars, 400 on Calle Uruguay and 450 on Via Argentina. For now, the Municipality of Panama has tendered the contract for the project designs and waiting for interested companies to submit their proposals on 21 September. Then the contract will be awarded and construction could be completed in 2013. The project was originally led by the Ministry of Public Works, but because it is not a priority for this entity, the municipality took it over and will use their own equity as well as loan financing.
