The Governor’s Office of the province of Panama announced today, Thursday, 12 January 2012, that through a letter addressed to Governor Mayín Correa, the Mayor of Panama City, Ricardo “Bosco” Vallarino, has resigned. The information was confirmed through a press release. (Prensa)
Editor’s Comment: And, there it is. There were “strong rumors” last night that supposedly president Ricardo Martinelli had called Bosco and threatened to “put him in jail” if he didn’t resign. And of course when those rumors surfaced Martinelli said he had not talked to anyone, denying the rumors. I can only speculate that agents of the Martinelli administration uncovered some kind of hard and cold information linking Vallarino to some kind of illegal activity, graft, corruption, embezzlement, or what have you. The “threat” would be either Vallarino resigns from office, or they would deliver that information to the Public Ministry to start a criminal proceeding. And considering the fact that the Supreme Court was about to rule against Bosco Vallarino anyway, he apparently decided it would be better to simply leave office on his own terms and not wait for the Supreme Court decision or some other action against him. With this resignation now Roxana Mendez will assume the position of Mayor of Panama City. There’s one more position of power that has been taken over by the Cambio Democratico political party.
